Say yes in Aarhus. In Arne Jacobsen's town hall.

Aarhus is one of the ten municipalities international couples named most often as their wedding place in 2024. Ceremonies are held Thursday to Saturday in the town hall's wedding hall, its walls decorated with floral motifs. I photograph your ceremony, the congratulations and then your couple shoot, in Mindeparken or the lanes of the Latin Quarter.

  • Ceremonies on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays
  • Witnesses at the town hall on Thursdays and Fridays
  • Room for about 50 standing guests

What you need to know about Aarhus

If neither of you meets the residence or citizenship requirements, you apply for your certificate of marital status at Familieretshuset, the Danish Agency of Family Law. You name your preferred date in the marriage declaration, no earlier than 14 days after the certificate arrives. The arrangement only stands once the wedding office has confirmed it.

Venue

Vielsessalen at the town hall, Rådhuspladsen 2, 8000 Aarhus C. Guests stay on the same floor, and after the ceremony you may briefly use the café tables in the town hall foyer.

Ceremony days

Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, not on public holidays and not in weeks 29 to 31.

Witnesses

Two are required. On Thursdays and Fridays two town hall attendants are present; on Saturdays you bring your own witnesses.

After the ceremony

Confetti cannons are not allowed, but throwing rice outside the town hall is.

Costs

For a ceremony by a registrar outside the town hall, the municipality lists fees from DKK 1,020 on weekdays with your own witnesses. A member of the city council marries you free of charge if they have time. On top of that comes your application to Familieretshuset, DKK 2,100.

As of October 2026, without guarantee. Please check the pages of Aarhus Municipality and Aarhus Municipality (in Danish) and Familieretshuset and Dansk Erhverv: ranking based on Familieretshuset figures (in Danish).
